Oh, and how quick are they to clean the bloody mess, removing stains from the carpet and leaving no trace behind!
Looks like we all have something to learn from them! However, let’s get back to real life, how to get blood out of a carpet? If you or someone in the house injured themselves accidentally and the carpet stained with blood, do not panic.
Just remain calm and think of tips that you read somewhere, hacks that work. Because most of you have heard that bloodstains do not come out, panicking in a situation like this is very likely.
Nevertheless, with the right techniques and products, we promise, it is not that difficult.
So, how to clean blood out of carpet? Do you need to call in a professional carpet cleaner for help? What to do if the blood dries up? Hold on for a second because we have some valuable hacks to share with you right here!
When your carpet is stained with blood, you will be hesitant to call professional cleaners because they might think otherwise.
So, if you cannot afford a professional carpet cleaner or do not want to call in someone, here is what you need to do:
1. Clean the Excess Blood
Primarily, as we have suggested every time you drop something on the carpet is to clean the excess with paper towels. Whether the blood is big or small, grab a bunch of paper towels and wipe the spot.
Do not, and we repeat, do not rub the fresh bloodstain or it will smear, spreading to a larger part of your carpet and making it harder to clean.
2. Blot Stain with Cold Water
Next, blot the stain with cold water to lighten it. Do not use warm or hot warm as it clots the blood quicker, making it much difficult to clean.
Thus, gently pour some cold water on the stain and use a fresh piece of cloth or some towels to dab maximum blood stain from within the fibers.
A point to remember here is that do not use any soap or liquid to clean the stain yet, only use cold water and nothing else.
3. Use Liquid Dishwashing Detergent
Forget everything else for now like no fancy carpet cleaners because not everyone has it in the house. But what you have in the kitchen is the dishwashing liquid which works great.
Now mix 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid (scent-free, if you have one) with 2 cups of cold water and dilute to form a solution.
Now either spray it directly on the stain or dip a fresh piece of cloth in the solution and blot the area with it.
Let the solution sit for a good 15 to 20 minutes before you rinse it again with cold water. If the need is, use a toothbrush to gently rub out the stain but do not use any force, or else it will damage the carpet fibers.
Moreover, this method works great for removing both fresh and dried blood without leaving any residues behind.
4. Dry It
If the bloodstain is still there, repeat the process and use only cold water to rinse the solution out.
In addition, do not use heat directly on the wet carpet surface, or else it’ll burn the delicate fibers.
Once you have removed the blood stain fully, either pat the area dry using some towels or vacuum it.
5 Other Ways to Clean Blood Out of Carpet
Dishwashing liquid and water is one solution ideal to remove any type of stains from the carpet. but sometimes, dealing with a bloodstain, especially a dried one can be pretty tricky.
Therefore, when the home-made cleaning solution doesn’t work for you, here is what more you can do:
1. Use Only Cold Water
If you do not have any carpet cleaner, washing liquid, or soda, do not worry. Fill a bottle with cold water and spray it directly on the stain. Blot the area and use clean towels to absorb as much blood as you can.
Do not rub the stain and repeat the process until the bloodstain is all out.
2. Potato Starch
Does this sound new to you? We bet it does but potato starch can too help get the bloodstain out of your luxurious carpet easily.
All you need to do is blot the area with warm water, sprinkle a generous amount of potato starch on it and leave it for 24 hours before rinsing it with cold water.
If you still are not satisfied with the removal, try out the next ingredient.
3. Salt
Salt is not only used to add flavor to your food. Rather this one easily available kitchen ingredient is a great stain remover.
How?
In a bowl take a few tablespoons of salt and add some water. Mix both to make a thick paste and apply it to the bloodstain.
Next, let the paste sit on the stain for 5 to 10 minutes, blot it with wet wipes, clean it with towels and repeat until the stain has completely gone.
Sounds easy, right? Try it and we promise you will not be disappointed. We are sure you must have some salt in the house.
4. Ammonia
Although ammonia is not available in every house if the bloodstain has dried up, you might need to get it from the market or else live with the ugly stain forever!
Next, mix 2 tablespoons of ammonia in 8 ounces of water, dip a cloth in the solution and blot the stain with it.
Leave it there for 15 to 20 minutes, rinse with cold water and pat it dry. If the stain is still there, use some more solution and repeat.
Moreover, ammonia and water solution are great to remove stains from synthetic fiber carpets, preserving their beauty and freshness.
5. Baking Soda and Vinegar
Probably the easiest of all, mix some baking soda and vinegar in warm water. Mix it thoroughly and spray it on the bloodstain.
Or dip some towels in the solution and blot the area and let it sit for a good 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it out with cold water.
Will the Blood Stain Come Out Completely?
Carpets stain easily and it can be hard to clean them. But if you know the right tricks, removing something as stubborn as a bloodstain shouldn’t be impossible.
